MFC Entry: finished. Sort of. And again.

Well, that didn't work out like I expected.

I had planned to do a punk version of Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans", but every time I played it, I hated it just a little bit more.

So I didn't do that. I put all the accumulated bile and phlegm from covering schmaltzy 70s-style Adult Contemporary into doing a cover of a tune that I have occasionally threatened to play at various weddings--AC/DC's "The Jack". This is a classic love song, lovingly crafted by Bon Scott and the Brothers Young.

Of course, this was something that I decided to do late last night, and I've been recovering from a bad cold, so the vocals don't really get into Bon Scott territory. And I screwed up the FIRST LINE.

An earlier aborted take sent Mrs. F downstairs into the "studio" to find out if I was in some kind of pain. This one was quieter, partly to keep her from calling 911 and reporting that something was dying in the basement, and partly because my throat couldn't take the effort anymore.

After recording this, I felt somewhat contrite for throwing poo at clock's MFC competition, so I recorded a Neil Young-inspired cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". I had done a recording of this before, but it sounded horrible. For this one, I tried something new with microphone placement, and it seems to have fixed some of the harshness and boominess that I had before.
