I punched no one.

I got really bored on Sunday, so I went to the gym in the morning. Didn't have much energy though, so I only stayed for about an hour. On the way home, I stopped at the fish store to completely undo any benefit of the gym by getting a calamarai plate. While there, I ran into a professor of mine from UMass. He's as old as dirt. He even said that he's now the oldest full professor at UMass/Boston. He had a friend with him. His old professor from Cornell. To him, Gandolf would be just a pup. They're both sharp as tacks, though, and I enjoyed the conversation.

Spent all day today (so far) moving my stuff from one storage company to another. I'm pooped. The new unit is 5x5 and my stuff just barely fit. Not that there's that much, really, but it's awkwardly shaped, so it's hard to wedge into a small unit like that. This is a better place, though. I'm going to be quite sore tomorrow, I think. That, and I think I whacked my elbow on something.

First organizational meeting for next July's bike ride is Saturday in Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury! HTF does anyone get to Shrewsbury?

I'm perplexed. Tomorrow is Tuesday which is my normal on-site day. It's also Halloween. I'm wondering what I should do. I heard a rumorish thing they dress and partay. I wouldn't doubt it, but I'm not really part of the group. Wondering whether to take any nosh as well.

Saturday I watched it rain. And rain. And rain. Sunday I watched it blow. And blow. And blow. That was pretty much it for my weekend. Ain't it exciting?

I got a couple French & Saunders DVDs from the local IP respoitory. I really wanted to like them because I like Dawn French (esp. "Murder most Horrid") and Jennifer Saunders. But the show just doesn't work for me. There were a couple good jokes here and there, but over all ho-hum.

Also watched Spider-Man 2. Too much analysis. Not enough fighting. I was pleased at being able to spot the lightning-fast Stan Lee cameo. I know Peter Parker is supposed to be some angst ridden emo kid, but gah! it makes for a long movie when that's 90% of the story. It was at least 1/2 hour too long.

would not watch again.

I liked Spider Man 2. It was a bit less comic book than Spider Man 1.

Still can't get over the whole cold fusion = fire thing. Toss the thermonuclear reaction into the water, that'll do the trick!

I spent the day moving stone with a flat-tired wheelbarrow and harvesting firewood with a rusty bow saw.

undoing workouts by alprazolam (4.00 / 1) #4 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 04:58:39 PM EST
actually right aftwer a workout is the best time to consume a combination of carbs and protein. It's the one time a day you really do benefit from spiking your insulin, due to increased protein synthesis etc.

Deep fried calamari by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 06:06:24 PM EST
is neither carb nor protien. Okay, maybe a little, but the prime ingredient is cooking oil.

In re: insulin. Other factors are in play in that arena.

ahh by alprazolam (4.00 / 1) #12 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 10:06:40 PM EST
lol I didn't even consider that it was deep fried, I was thinking carpaccio for some reason. Yea hopefully it at least didn't have trans fats. Still though it's better to eat than to not. Even fats are necessary to building muscle.

route 9! have fun.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

Shrewsbury by jimgon (4.00 / 1) #6 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 05:37:53 PM EST
From where you live?  "Ya cahn't git thar, from har."  Actually you need a car.  Other than with a car, there isn't a good way to get there.

Travel by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #9 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 06:22:52 PM EST
It doesn't look like too bad of a ride from Grafton, and there's a train that would get me there in time. But the first train back isn't until 2:30.

The big problem by jimgon (4.00 / 1) #14 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 08:34:59 AM EST
Is that you would need to take a taxi from Grafton to Shrewsbury.  There's no other public transportation around.  If you decide to do it, send me a PM.  I'll give you my cell phone number in case you run into problems.  Sundays are my errand day, so I'll be flitting about.

Bicycle! by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #15 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 08:58:04 AM EST
It's Saturday, but it all depends on the weather. And whether I get up in time to make the train. And whether I can park my bike inside the Masonic Lodge where the meeting is.

etc.

actually by MillMan (4.00 / 1) #8 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 06:18:10 PM EST
if the weather is tolerable you could probably take the commuter rail to Grafton and bike the remaining short distance.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

That's what I was looking at. by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #10 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 06:24:56 PM EST
The only problem is first return train isn't until 2:30. But if it's a nice enough day, it might be worth riding all the way home. Not many good roads out there for that, though. I'd probably have to head north for a bit in order to get somethign other than Route 20.

Another Spiderman 2 shortcoming: by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 1) #11 Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 09:13:54 PM EST

no rainy kiss scene. WTF? I know, I know, that wouldn't have helped you like it any more, but it would have placated me, and isn't that what we all want, ultimately?

Shrewsbury by blixco (4.00 / 1) #13 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 08:28:54 AM EST
is all the way down rt 9.  Or: take the masspike to worcester then take 9 across the lake, or take the exit for rt20 from the pike.

But I always liked wasting time, taking a combination of rtes 20 and 9.

Too bad Spags isn't still around.

All of my mafia insurance clients were in Shrewsbury.  Seriously, right there on Boylston street there's a bunch of insurance companies.  And they're all owned by actual made guys.  I never had to worry about nothin' in Shrewsbury.

That's contrary to my car-free lifestyle. by ad hoc (4.00 / 1) #16 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 08:59:13 AM EST
I can get there by a train/bike combo if I'm determined enough to do it.

Right now, that's a big if.

is touchy there, too. Hrm.

Yeah, I dunno.  Shrewsbury probably wouldn't make it worthwhile.

Easy. by ambrosen (4.00 / 1) #20 Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 02:16:24 PM EST
Although they axed the direct connection, so now I have to change at Wolverhampton. Or Birmingham.

I go there quite frequently, but I'm afraid I drive. It's a nice ride, too.
