Feel free to read the rest of this entry aloud using the voice of the "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! THE WORLD'S LARGEST TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULL EVENT!!!" announcer.

AND, IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME... some guy looked out from his mountaintop upon the face of the land, and he saw that the doings of men were generally lame and boring, and that they spent way too much on car insurance, and that their lives were as grass before the gopher's tooth.

THUS DID HE SPEAK UPON MEN: "Lo, your constant blabbering on AM radio has offended mine ears, and I swear that I will rain down fire upon the next person to play 'Stairway to Heaven' in my presence."

"Therefore, say I unto you, set the rocks to rolling with sound of timpani, and glockenspiel, and viola da gamba, and sousaphone, yea, even with electric guitar and washboard. And then my heavenly hosts of robotic flying monkeys shall utterly annihilate all of humanity so that I can finally get a vacation from this business without my pager going off every century."

So the people looked up at the guy on the mountain, and said, "Whoa, that guy would be an excellent radio announcer."

And, here it is at last. Vote for your favorite songs and album covers for MFC VII: In Case Of War, Break Glass. The initial concept was to pick the best song or songs to listen to when you know there's a bad moon rising and the end is coming soon, and to pick the cover art for an album to be kept in case of such emergencies. Or, you can just pick what you like. I'm not big on rules.

So, in short, vote for zero or more songs AND zero or more album covers. Voting commences NOW, and concludes in about a week, or maybe later if there are still votes coming in--sort of like making microwave popcorn.

Once again, thanks for 256 for providing hosting for the files.

Cam: liking the frantic feel of the song.  A bit different to your usual song structures

fff: Fucking amazing!  Love the synths with the delay (what synth are you using for that, by the way?) and love the fucked-up electronica guitar at the end.

polaris: It's like Atari Teenage Riot.  Needs Keith Flint screaming over the top of it to really set it off.

Honourable mention for Nigga's stuff.  I was hoping for some rhymes here, but it seems that we've just got the loops.  A better drum loop for the first track would improve it a lot.  Love the beats for the second and third tracks though.  Would probably have vorted for one of these if you'd added some old school vocals over the top.

Thanks gazbo. There is also a 7/4 section in the song which gives that funny halting feel. 606 has done a couple of remixes of the song too; hopefully he wont mind me linking directly to them;

This was a strong mfc with some rocking newcomers. Where has polaris been hiding? A punk electronia song? Short and fast - rocking!

FFF's song has a Thrusty type feel of wild guitar in the middle of it. Clock's first entry in an mfc is awesomely moody. Clock needs to enter these things more often ....

Blixco proves again that he has the best voice amongst us, while Bob demonstrates that he has the best guitar sound (again). Ana's production values keep increasing and now it sounds like there is a choir in the song. Motty is his normal brilliant and highly consistent self.

My top vote goes to VLF this time. That is a kicking song that really does it for me.

Writing and recording is the easy part, production is where it is hard. Each time I learn something new in the production component which makes the song sound better than the last.

to take up all the attention and time I care to give it. Spent an extra hour working on mine and discarded the results cuz my voice was for shit that night. I rather like your idea of doing things in very short snippets, so you have to discard less if you make a mistake. I think I've figured out how to snip a track into two and delete one of them without the other now, so that's a good thing. Getting re-started is something of a bitch, though, especially with one eye on the "record" button and the other on the music.

all 3 were Great tracks... but I particularly liked MoodySynth which narrowly missed out on one of my votes. I really liked the cheesy Sci-fi series vibe (or at least that's what it said to me).

I've been away from the site for too long.  That tune should win on samples alone; great goddamn movie, and an excellently produced and played track.

Polaris' tune is great, as well; I played it in the office and my office roommate thought I was playing some frantic new game.

Cam, as always, is excellent.  I'd tie him with Bohb four third; Bob's come a long long way with both keyoard and guitar, and the sampled bits at the front are funny as heck.

Goddamn.  These things are getting to be much more difficult to judge.  Production qualities are way, way up.  Musicianship is way up.  And all but three of these are original, correct?  My two covers (I really wish I could write a lyric) and Ana's brilliant track.

Well done, everyone.  Very well done.

Forgot to mention that clock track is stuning.  I'd put it up front; I just got caught up in trying to figure out who fff is.  I'm a huge fan of Explosions in the Sky and other well-heeled ambient stuff.  clock's track is going to supply a soundtrack for my entire day.

Aw, heck with it.  Everyone is excellent.  We put this one out, people.  I'll sell it at CD Baby, we send the profits to Hulver.

Is that a real piano on your entry? Or is that a soundfont or VST? It sounds great.

Anyways, I voted for Motty and Cam. Motty's style is fresh and funky and the piano work is terrific. Cam's a terrific songwriter, with some increased production your stuff would sound at home on the radio.

I was sorely tempted to vote for more than the customary 3, but in the end just about narrowed it down:

Polaris.... Excellent, Intense!

Cam.... I originally had discounted this one, but I kept coming back to listen to it again and again.... it's a real grower!

VLF.... Here's voting for you kid! definitely best track from the House of Leather (face) yet. Lyrics and mood are superb.

Polaris also scored a double by getting my cover vote... great art, concept and boobies!

I liked all of the entries. My own special favorites were both of blixco's songs (mind if I cover these some time, blix?), and clock's guitar piece. clock--what kind of effects were you using? Beautiful. I gave TPD the nod for album cover. It has a bit of the P-Funk vibe to it.

cover tunes.  First We Take Manhattan is a Leonard Cohen song that everyone has covered, I think (my arrangement is based on part on REMs verion).  The other track is Aenema, by Tool, but only the words and three of the chords.

When I heard "First We Take Manhattan", I almost curled up into fetal position, in horror that you had written and recorded such an incredible song in a couple of weeks, and guys like Bob Dylan weren't making pilgramages to your house.

lyrics are consistently disgustingly good. He's always said that he considers himself more a poet than a musician, which is probably for the best, since is voice is a bit of an acquired taste.

I'm prone to going all ranty-Leonard-Cohen-fanboi given the chance, so I'm going to keep this brief. You should check out "Suzanne", "Famous Blue Raincoat", and maybe "Bird On A Wire". Oh, and everything else he's written. Then you can move onto the prose and non-musical poetry collections. Then you can begin the quiet conversion of that extra closet into a small shrine to him.

it was my trusty martin geetar with an ebow (3 tracks).  i recorded it quickly in garageband on my powerbook and added a default effect that sounded cool.  no real magic.  at all times my fingers were attached to my hands.

Thanks for the comments, folks. It was fun, even though I wasn't really happy with the track (it should have been longer and more interesting.)

Personally, I was blown away by clock's entry. I really love the sound of it, so much so that I don't have anything to say about other entries at this time. Vote for it. (But vote for my art. :P)

I would have picked Maiden's The Number of The Beast, but I think that's largely due to Zwan's cover of it (Spun soundrack.) It's got this defeated-cum-resolute calm to it.

Not really a war song, but the mood of it really gets me.
