The results are in. Now I just need to figure out what they mean.

Obviously, clock's submission is the favorite musical piece, and blixco's artwork is the favorite for the album cover. But what does this mean? Blixco's two musical entries add up to 20 votes, to clock's 19 for his one entry. And clock didn't submit any cover art.

All right, as the self-proclaimed winner of MFC 6, I hereby declare clock to be winner of the musical section, and blixco to be winner of the artwork section.

All those who disagree with this judgement are directed to meet in a parking garage, armed with swords, because THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!!

(And, if anyone sees a schtick lying about that DOESN'T involve obscure movie quotes, let me know.)

Great work to everyone who made an entry. You have all been immortalized in my playlist, at least.

good call by 256 (4.00 / 5) #1 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 01:31:17 AM EST
i think the general idea has been that multiple submissions are encouraged, but you run the risk of splitting your popularity vote.

as for the artwork, i've always thought it sort of silly to vote on it.

since, really, the only reason that the cover art contest exists is so that cam can have something to load onto his ipod, i think that cam should just arbitrarily declare whichever cover he ends up using for that purpose the winner.

I use all the artwork by cam (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 08:05:07 AM EST
I spread them all out over all the songs in the MFCx playlist on my itunes/ipod/nanopod. So like under 7's soccer, everyones a winner.

I say "fsck blixco"! by CountSpatula (4.00 / 1) #2 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 02:11:18 AM EST
Hell, man.  Submit artwork, but no music?  Word.  That's what you get.  A good fscking, right up your hard drive.  Hell, make it a fsck -mfq or something like that.

Hell, well done, all, I really loved the music, as well as the artwork.  Great stuff.  I hope to see more like that in the future, as I sure haven't the talent.

I entered not one, but two songs.  Two.

Still and all, if you'd like to fsck me, you'll have to install a file system.  So to speak. Big boy.

Hooooray for clock! by blixco (2.00 / 0) #7 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 08:48:34 AM EST
Yeah, when you submit multiple entries, they are each treated as individual entities and not as a collective.  Especially with multi-choice polls!

My "artwork" was a last minute photoshop test, but it was the funniest picture I'd seen in at least five hours. The picture is titled "days_like_this.jpg" in my $rand_photos directory, which is also very funny, I think.

But I am aghast that I would "win" the artwork competition, since mine is just a quick photoshop job, and not at all original work.  The guys who actually created something should be the winrars.

All that being said, welcome to the terrible reign of blixco, album artist.  Behold my next cover:

thx for hosting. by ana (4.00 / 1) #9 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 09:23:05 AM EST
I was rather amazed to get six votes. But it was fun, and a great theme for selecting music.

The poll is here, so future passers-by can see what the hoopla was about.

so, I totally voted *after* the closing, by Phil Urich (2.00 / 0) #12 Sun Aug 27, 2006 at 04:18:30 AM EST
partially just to solidify my come-late-ness...or, umm, something.  Ironically, one of the reasons I've been so busy and thus unable to do something like submit anything of my own to this all was that I was volunteering for a music festival.

Worth noting, on that thought, that if I ever was running a Folk Music Festival, I'd be inviting Blixco and Clock.  Not even a second thought on that one. Would've been better than a few of the performers I actually saw at the Edmonton Folk Fest, actually.  Get these HuSi people record contracts, dammit! Or, okay, failing that, let's go jump lickety-split into another MFC.

Alas, the cute violinist that I met is going back to far away when the new University semester starts shortly, but so be it.  I'll put together a band, even if I have to teach my friends the instruments myself . . .
