So, we're back. The redneck wedding was not nearly as horrible as I'd thought it might be. If everybody they invited had showed up, there would not have been room in the VFW hall for the dance floor (the one reason they had the reception there instead of at the church, I'm guessing). The final brother-in-law has announced his engagement, so our trips to NC in the past year (and future 6 months) really will be four weddings and a funeral (plus a couple other visits).
I see Bob Abooey has submitted a track for the Classical Music Fun Challenge. The more the merrier. Also, a cover design or two would be cool.
Yesterday was the feast of the Ascension. Our choir was drafted to sing for the evening service. So now I'm hoarse again. Not clear when I'm going to have both voice and time enough to work on the collaborative CMFC entry we have all negotiated. I had thought that perhaps I could spend the slack time in NC switching-on some Bach or something. Perhaps for the next CMFC if there ever is another one.
We've had well over an inch of rain the past couple days. And temperatures that never surpassed 50 F. Is a mere 10 Celsius degrees too much to ask in May?
I ran into a bona-fide reference to a paper published in 1908 today.
I've been in and out so much lately that I've forgotten what it was I was working on, when I'm here going to work 40 hours per.
I did manage to finish the recently published Children of Húrin, by JRR Tolkien (edited together from disparate manuscripts by Christopher Tolkien). It's pretty much as expected, to the reader of Unfinished Tales and other volumes of incomplete manuscripts, except that it's more or less a complete, self-contained story, and less an apparatus criticus. Tragic, in a very Teutonic Myth kind of a way. The Best Hero Evar still dies, alone, in the mud, bewitched by a dragon.
